Boulay Mentor Program

PURPOSE


The purpose of the Boulay Mentor Program is to provide an avenue for all Boulay/BFA team members, to be provided a mentor to assist and support their professional growth at Boulay. It is also an opportunity for our more seasoned professionals to offer perspective, assistance, and support.  The program is a one-year commitment (December 1 through November 30) that can be renewed on an annual basis.

ELIGIBILITY


Mentee Role
Team members, in any department, up through Manager level can participate in the program as a mentee. New hires should have at least 3 months of Boulay experience. Some tenure exceptions may be made for seasoned hires.


Mentor Role
Team members, in any department, starting at the Senior Associate level and up (non-partner) can participate in the program as a mentor after completing at least 6 months at Boulay. Some tenure exceptions may be made for seasoned hires.

 

*Note: it is acceptable for an individual to serve as both a mentee and mentor within the same program year, (i.e. a Supervisor serves as a mentor to an Associate while also being a mentee with a Senior Manager).

 


APPLICATION PROCESS

 

Early November of each year, applications to be a mentor or mentee are distributed via email to all Firm Team Members.  Applications must be completed and submitted by (approximately) November 15. Pairings are determined by the Mentor Committee and are announced in late November to each individual for the upcoming December 1 – November 30 year. Pairings will be based upon several factors listed on their application including but not limited to:

  1. Mentee requests
  2. Personal focus areas (work/life integration, skill development)
  3. Interest in a particular industry or service line (industry offering, service line, or niche experience)

The mentee will be assigned a mentor who are above their peer level.

 

 

MENTOR POOL


The pool of mentors will be based upon a voluntary group of individuals willing to take on 1-2 mentees for that year. Mentor training will be provided annually for these individuals in late-November.

 


ROLES

 

Mentor

  • Assist and support the mentee’s growth at Boulay
  • Provide career pathing opportunities
  • Provide honest constructive feedback (both positive and negative)
  • Make key introductions with influential individuals and provide networking opportunities
  • Be aware of what is being said around the office regarding your mentee
  • Communicate regularly and commit to the agreed upon meeting times and frequencies
  • In addition to regularly scheduled meetings, take mentee out up to two times (per 12-month cycle) for a reimbursable lunch/coffee to strengthen relationship in a relaxed environment
  • Share your personal experiences

 

Mentee

  • Communicate desired expectations of the relationship
  • Be responsible for coordinating and scheduling your mentor meetings
  • Be open to feedback from the Mentor
