In December 2020, Washington, D.C. passed the Zero Waste Omnibus Amendment Act of 2020, which contains, amongst other items, a product stewardship mandate for primary/single-use and rechargeable batteries sold into the District.

The Law requires the following:

  • Battery Stewardship Organizations (BSO):  Entities wishing to become an approved BSO must first register with the District and then submit a Battery Stewardship Plan to the District no later than January 1, 2023.  Call2Recycle, Inc. has registered as a BSO and will submit a Plan prior to the due date.
  • Obligated Producers (i.e., brand owners, manufacturers, etc.):  Obligated Producers must register with a BSO by January 1, 2022 to comply with the Law.

To comply with the Law and appoint Call2Recycle, Inc. as your organization’s BSO, please complete and submit the below form.  PLEASE NOTE: This is a non-binding submission and can be changed prior to the submission of Call2Recycle’s battery stewardship plan (approx. 12/19/2022).
