Gordon Chesterman Scholarship

The Gordon Chesterman Scholarship was established in 2012 by Waikato Institute of Technology (Wintec) in recognition of the significant contribution and valued work of long-serving Chair of Council, Gordon Chesterman. The first scholarship was awarded in 2013.

The purpose of the Scholarship is to assist students to undertake full-time study, towards a qualification at Wintec.

Mana Whenua Scholarship

The purpose of the scholarship is to assist mana whenua in undertaking study, towards a qualification in their chosen field. The scholarship is awarded based on the aspirations that hapū have for their tribal members to be independent and able to contribute to the sustainability of their whānau, hapū, and Iwi into the future.

Must upload the following documents with this form:
  • Personal statement (minimum 200 words), video or voice recording that outlines how this
    scholarship will assist you in furthering your career aspirations, how it will support personal
    development and your whānau, hapū, Iwi and community.
Once your form is completed:
  • Ask your referee from your marae or hapū to complete the Scholarship Referee Questionnaire.
    This questionnaire will be used as part of the selection process by the Scholarship Selection Panel.
  • Please note the referee has to be from your Marae or hapū.

Dame Te Ātairangikaahu Nursing Scholarship

The purpose of the scholarship is to assist Tainui students in undertaking full-time study, towards an undergraduate nursing qualification, midwifery degree, or a postgraduate nursing qualification in the Centre for Health and Social Practice at Wintec. The scholarship is awarded based on academic merit, personal character and involvement in cultural and community life.

Leaupepe Elisapeta (Peta) Karalus Scholarship

The scholarships are named after Peta Karalus in recognition of her significant contribution and valued work in the Pasifika community. The Leaupepe Elisapeta (Peta) Karalus Scholarships were established in 2020 by the Waikato Institute of Technology (Wintec) to enable more opportunities for Pasifika people to pursue study at a degree level in the areas of health and social practice.

The purpose of the scholarship is to assist students in undertaking full-time study, towards a qualification at Wintec.

Suzanne Hunt IT Scholarship

The Suzanne Hunt IT Scholarship was established in 2022 by Wintec in memory of Suzanne Hunt - a past employee of Wintec. As well as working within IT, Suzanne volunteered her time to several organisations associated with providing digital connectivity and literacy in areas of need. This included helping to set up the Computer Clubhouse at Enderley Community Centre in Hamilton - an after-school programme for underserved communities. Suzanne was also a Trustee of Web Access Waikato.

This scholarship has been set up by Wintec, Suzanne’s family and her last employer, Spark Ltd, to recognise and remember Suzanne’s achievements, and to continue her advocacy to support women to train, qualify and work in the IT field – a traditionally male orientated profession.

The purpose of the scholarship is to assist female identifying ākonga to undertake full-time study towards a qualification offered by Wintec in the Centre for Information Technology. The scholarship will be awarded based on academic merit, character, and involvement in cultural and community life.

The Wintec Physiotherapy scholarships have been established to assist Māori and Pacific ākonga to undertake full-time study in the Bachelor of Physiotherapy. The scholarship is awarded based on academic merit, character, and cultural and community life.

Darren Simpson-Lees Scholarship

The Darren Simpson-Lees Scholarship was established in 2023 by Wintec in memory of Darren Simpson Lees, a past Wintec student.

This scholarship has been set up by Wintec and Darren's family to recognise and remember Darren's achievements and passion for Te Taiao (the natural environment).

The purpose of the scholarship is to assist students studying Advanced Horticultural Trades (Level 4) (Amenity, Arboriculture or Landscape Design) at Wintec who may be facing financial constraints to proceed to the second year of study. The scholarship will be awarded based on character and potential contribution to the community, as assessed by the selection panel.

The Hamilton Club Scholarship

The Hamilton Club Scholarship was established in 2026 by Waikato Institute of Technology (Wintec).

The purpose of the scholarship is to assist students undertaking full time study at Wintec in any Bachelor or Diploma level programme offered at Wintec. The Scholarship is awarded based on academic merit, character, and involvement in cultural and community life.

Sheree Ryan Scholarship

The Sheree Ryan Scholarship was established in 2026 by Sheree Ryan and Waikato Institute of Technology (Wintec).

The purpose of the scholarship is to support a domestic ākonga (student) who is in their final year of their qualification in Bachelor of Accounting or Bachelor of Applied Management undertaking finance related modules and requires financial assistance to successfully complete their studies.

  • Any supporting documentation relevant to their financial circumstances.
